Business Analyst

Tyto Insights is hiring a Business Analyst in Midrand (hybrid). You will lead client discovery, gather requirements and produce clear, professional documentation for our developers. R33,000 to R38,000 per month after a three-month probation.

About the role

Tyto Insights is a South African data and software consultancy. We help businesses make better use of their data, improve their processes and connect their systems. Our work covers data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, AI, workflow automation and custom software.

We are looking for a Business Analyst who can turn client needs and complex information into clear, complete and professional documentation. You will help clients say what they need. You will give our developers the information they need to deliver the work.

Your main focus is business analysis, requirements gathering and document production. Client communication and support for project pricing are also key parts of the role. Project management and client success skills are welcome.

You will start with close supervision during a three-month probation period. We expect you to move quickly to leading discovery, requirements and documentation on your own. A full-time offer is available after probation.

What you will do

  • Lead discovery conversations with clients to understand their needs, processes and desired outcomes.
  • Gather, clarify and document business and functional requirements.
  • Analyse current processes and find the root causes of business problems.
  • Resolve ambiguity and build a shared understanding of requirements with clients.
  • Produce service orders, BRDs, FRDs, technical design documents, current-state analyses and root-cause analyses.
  • Capture inputs from technical and commercial decision-makers and get approval for decisions.
  • Prepare client research, business cases, user stories, acceptance criteria, change logs and training materials as needed.
  • Prepare proposed client pricing with clear assumptions and dependencies, and submit it for approval.
  • Act as the link between clients and developers.
  • Own the quality, completeness, clarity and consistency of all project documentation.
  • Create data-flow diagrams, reporting requirements and benefits-realisation reports when required.

What we are looking for

  • A completed tertiary degree. Information Science, Industrial Engineering or a related field is preferred. Other degrees are welcome.
  • Strong business writing skills and the ability to produce clear, structured documents.
  • The ability to gather requirements, ask focused questions and clarify ambiguous needs.
  • Confident, professional client communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and ownership of document quality.
  • The ability to work independently after an initial period of close supervision.
  • The ability to turn scope and effort estimates into a proposed client price.

Nice to have

  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Experience assessing project feasibility.
  • Experience creating roadmaps, schedules and deadlines.
  • Experience logging and managing issues and reporting progress.
  • Project management or client success experience.

What you can expect

  • Hybrid work: three days in the office and two days from home.
  • Flexible hours around core availability of 09:00 to 15:00.
  • Close support and mentorship during your first three months.
  • Varied work across data, AI, automation and software projects in many industries.
  • Free lunch on us when in office.
